BOOM! Science!

Please note I was given product samples in exchange for this blog post.  All opinions and photos are my own.

On Saturday's. we do Science.  Well, truth be told, we talk about science a lot more than just on Saturday's with our kids.  But, this winter we got all the bad weather on the weekends, so science projects were a fun way to pass the time indoors.  And this new BOOM! Combustion Science Lab Kit has tons of ideas and supplies to keep your kids busy, entertained and learning all at the same time.
BOOM! allows your kids to explore scientific principals through hands-on activities.  With supplies and a lab guide for 25 experiments there is a wide variety of topics and subject matter to stir interest in any little mind.

The guide book contains clear instructions, safety procedures to follow and scientific principals as to what is going on in the experiment.  Adult supervision is recommend with each experiment.  BOOM! is for ages 8 and up and is made my Hand2Mind.  BOOM! can be purchased online.

The two experiments we did that I'm sharing with you today are "the dance of colors" using milk, food coloring and dish soap.  As you can see in the photo below, the fat in the milk keeps food coloring from mixing in.  When dish soap on a tooth pick is added to the center of the food coloring it moves far apart because the dish stop breaks the bonds of the milk molecules and breaks the surface tension creating a movement of the colors, or a dance.
The 2nd experiment we did was a fun and simple Chromatography.  Chromatography is a physical method used to separate mixtures.  Here the kids drew with colored markers on a coffee filter.  Next, they used a pipette to drop water on the colored markings and watched the dots spread and even in some cases change back to the primary colors they were made up of.
BOOM! Combustion Science Lab Kit is a great way to support at home learning fun.  STEM type projects foster critical thinking skills and when you do these experiments as a family is a great way to spend time together and learn something new.

Big Thanks to Hand2Mind for sending me product samples to review.
