Canning Season is here. So far this year I've put up cherries, peaches, green beans and tomato juice. And theres still plenty of summer left so I know I'll be canning much more. But I wanted to let you know about this years International Can-It-Forward day on Saturday, August 1st.
Jarden Home Brands (the makers of Ball canning jars) will be hosting their 5th annual Can-It-Forward Day broadcast live online at FreshPreserving.com from 11 am to 4 pm EST. This event will celebrate the joys of fresh preserving. Can-It-Forward Day encourages gardeners & food enthusiasts across the country to celebrate what “Made From Here” means to them by fresh preserving their favorite local ingredients in peak season. The webcast will have an integrated chat function where viewers can submit their home canning questions to be answered in real time. New this year, there will also be an exciting celebrity mason jar auction unveiled during the webcast!

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing some of Ball's new products. First up are the Heritage Collection Jars. This year the color purple was released but in the past there has been green and blue jars. I used them early this year for a party.
If you are looking for recipe ideas there's the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving. This is the 37th edition and includes 75 recipes and pictorial step by step guides.
And lastly, no back yard cookout would be complete without the Sip & Straw lid to adorn your canning jar glasses. Available in both wide mouth and regular mouth sizes, these lids and straws add a splash of color to your drink and keep bugs out.
Here you can see the green ones in use for my refreshing Pool Party Punch recipe.
And one lucky reader will win a FREE case of jars to put up their own seasonal goodies. Simply click on the rafflecopter link below for your chance to win. Winner will be notified via e-mail and have 48 hours to claim their prize or risk forfeit. Must be a US resident to enter.

So far I've canned blackberry preserves and I plan on canning tomato sauce and ketchup when my Romas ripen. (I LOVE homemade ketchup and NEVER use the store-bought stuff!) I'm also making apple butter this year.
