Oreo Popcorn

I'm blogging today about Popcorn on behalf of Indiana's Family of Farmers and their Table Talk Series.

And, just in case you haven't popped by for awhile, you should know we're poppin' up a lot of fun with this years Indiana State Fair theme.... The Year of Popcorn.  We've made Popcorn hair bows and sewed a Popcorn skirt, and today we are sharing a Popcorn recipe. Most Popcorn is grown in the Midwest and the state of Indiana ranks 2nd in popcorn production (behind Nebraska).  But it is important to note that Popcorn it is different than sweet corn (what you and I eat off the ear) or field corn (most of the corn you see growing in fields that is used primarily for animal feed).  Whether you need a snack, or are watching a movie popcorn is tasty treat for the whole family to enjoy.
Today I am sharing a recipe for Oreo flavored Popcorn.  I have to give credit to Ott, E for suggesting this snack combination as he thought it would be fun to create.  With some trial and error in my kitchen, I whipped up the perfect ration to make
Ingredients:  4 cups popped plain popcorn, 12 double stuff oreos and 1/2 cup white chocolate chips.
Try to pick out any unpopped kernals from your popcorn.  Separate the stuffing from the oreo cookie.  Place the cookies in a bag and mash into fine bits.  Place the stuffing in a microwaveable container with the white chocolate chips and microwave on medium heat for 20 seconds.  Stir then microwave again for another 20 seconds.  Stir and repeat if necessary to reach a smooth consistency.  Pour cookie bits into mixture and stir.  Then drizzle over popcorn. (I put the popcorn in a big bowl and stirred it all together.
Then I spread the popcorn out on cookie sheets and allowed it to set up, probably for an hour.  I stored the popcorn in an airtight container, and it lasted a about a week.
Adding oreos to our popcorn was a fun way to spruce up an evening snack and I am certain we will make it again and again.  And now we are off to the State Fair to see the worlds largest popcorn ball, but don't worry we'll post some pictures of that for you later this week.
Thanks again to Indiana Family of Farmers for supplying me with some popcorn inspiration for this post, and if you are headed to this year's state fair be sure to check out their booth in the DuPont Food Pavilion.
