To my surprise as well as my families the meal was easy to make and tasted far better than what we were used to or expecting. I was also surprised that the recipe was created by participants of Bravo's top Chef TV show as I've been know to watch that show a time or two. The Chicken Margherita with Balsamic had nice pieces of Chicken tenderloin with angel hair pasta, roasted garlic and tomatoes in a Balsamic Vinaigrette sauce. You could quickly smell the aroma of the vinaigrette and once I tasted it, the flavors of the tomatoes and seasonings only enhanced the dish more.
The packaging of the meal was easy to open and the instructions were simple to follow. I was impressed that the noodles and chicken sat above the sauce in the container and only after it was done cooking did you mix the two together. I think by cooking them separate it allowed the food to heat more evenly. The packaging also contains self ventilation so you don't have to worry about poking the plastic or peeling back a corner or the annoying stirring half way through like some frozen dinners call for. Once the 4 minutes was up I poured the noodles tray onto the sauce bowl, stirred and ate.
While doing some research for this post I was surprised to find the punch of flavors that this meal contained. So many times you think frozen food you think of eating bland, cardboard like taste. Not true as the roasted garlic and basil in this dish were palatable flavors that spiced up the dish and gave it that more home made taste and quality. I also learned that Healthy Choice recipes use chef-inspired ingredients like, apples instead of sugar for tart sweetness and a splash of red wine for a punch of flavor instead of added salt. (Making the dish a little healthier too.)
Now that I've experienced the great taste and nutritional information that goes into a Healthy Choice Top Chef meal, I can safely say I'm more likely to use them more often at home, and have already started to think about using them for quick lunches instead of eating the traditional leftovers from the meal the night before.
ConAgra Foods frozen meals give families access to real ingredients like crunchy, freshly cut vegetables, homemade pasta and ripe fruit year-round. Just like most people blanch veggies before freezing them – ConAgra Foods does too – to help preserve color, texture and keep them fresh!
Give it a try sometime! Marie Callender’s hearty pot pies are filled with tender meat, freshly cut vegetables and Marie’s authentic golden, flaky crust.
