Then Ott, E spoke with a co-worker who deals with curcurbits (squashes, melons, and gourds) and he said butternut squash were notorious for having more male blossoms than female.
Well that made us feel better (or at least like it wasn't anything we were doing wrong). So here is our one and only butternut squash, which I just about daily check on and can't wait to harvest as I have big plans with what I'm going to make with it.

have you checked the bottom. I had 6 pumpkins and the bottoms were rotten nasty. Had to pitch them
Butternut squash is one of my top ten things about fall. Tossed with seasalt and rosemary and roasted till heavenly. I've been known to eat an entire one myself....even after I promised to bring it to my neighbor's for lunch. (I took a salad instead--that counts, right?)
Well, 1 butternut is better than no butternut! They are one of my absolute favorite winter squash. Yours looks like a big one, so you should be able to squeeze two recipes out of it! Enjoy!
With gardening one is always learning! Next year you'll know to hand pollinate and you'll have an abundance!
Just exploring your site. Just this week I started getting garden fever...enjoying the picture of your squash and sunflowers.
