Tall Sunflowers

The one thing in our garden that has flourished in the heat is our sunflowers.  I had a few big headed sunflowers that came up as volunteers and wow, did they ever grow.
Now if you'll recall we handed out packages of sunflower seeds as party favors at our wedding.  So every year I have planted a few of those and above is a picture of one of those.

So here is one of the sunflowers and as you can see it is taller than me (even though the large head of the  flower is starting to bend down some.)

And here is the tallest one and as you can see it's a good 2 feet taller than Ott, E.  Although I grow the flowers because I like them as a flower, they do attract birds who eat the seeds of the heads.  And they are fun to watch grown really tall like this.

This post was linked to tuesday garden party.

Wow! The girls and I planted ours a bit late this year. In fact, I don't even know if they will bloom.

Your sun flowers have gone wild. Never saw any so tall.

Sometimes the volunteers are the best

Your sunflowers look great. I don't have any this year in my garden and I miss them terribly. They just say Summertime!

I've seen quite a bit of sunflowers lately, but these strong winds have knocked many of them down. Glad to see yours are still standing!
