Join National Can-It-Forward Day to get ready for the Canning Week Blog Party

Did you know August 13th is National Can-It-Forward Day?
And like most of my weekends in August, I'm spending today in the kitchen up to my elbows in tomatoes canning salsa, juice, sauces and more.

Canning is a great way to put up extra produce you can't consume while it's fresh so you can enjoy it later in the year.  I grew up canning with my mom and now that I'm married I have continued on with that tradition.  Canning a couple of afternoons in the summer saves me countless hours all winter long, and it also saves me some grocery money as we eat vegetables canned straight from our garden.  While there is a little bit of an investment up front canning does save me money in the long run.

Here are a few canning recipes I have shared on this blog in the past.

And of course you can also find great recipes and guides on how to can Apple Pie Filling, Green Beans and Applesauce.  I also did a guest post on Canning Strawberry Rhubarb Jam that is excellent for beginning canners.

And, as you know I will be co-hosting the Canning Week Blog Party August 22nd - 26th with Jen From Mess Hall to Bistro.  Each day we will be posting various recipes, tips and step-by-step guides, on both of our blogs, all related to canning.  There will also be a linky party where you can link up recipes of your own and we will be having a guest judge select the winning recipe for a prize.  Throughout the week we will also have canning related GIVEAWAYS!!!!!  It will be a lot of fun so you definitely don't want to miss a single day.

Monday will be Canning Background and Preparation Information.
Tuesday will be Jam and Jelly Day
Wednesday will be Pickling Day
Thursday will be Vegetables Day
Friday will be recipes made specifically for canning Day

Oh and did I mention there would be GIVEAWAYS?!?!?  (just checking)

We also have a growing Facebook Community of Canning Enthusiast you can join "from garden plOTT to kitchen pOTT" where we share even more tips and encouragement of trying canning for yourself.  Or if you are on Pinterest you can check out my canning board.
