our alaskan trOTT: Day 2 train ride

On our 2nd day in Alaska we took a train from Anchorage to Denali National Park.  It was an 8 hour train ride, but very enjoyable with beautiful scenery.  The train cars were great as you sat on top with a glass dome to look out of.  There were also open decks for viewing and a dining car down below.

On the train we ate a Reindeer Chili and a Crab Chowder for lunch.
The train went past two small towns of interest.  The town of Wasilla, which is the official start of the Iditarod race.  And the town of Talkeetna, which is the town the TV show Northern Exposure was based off of.  Although no scenes were filmed in this town, they did say that it was not uncommon for a moose to walk down the center of the street, or a bear for that matter.

Later that evening we had dinner at the Gold Rush Restaurant near our Cabin.  Both had a great view of the River and we ate Salmon there.

Sure looks like you had a great trip!! Your pictures are amazing but I know they don't truly do the scenery justice, do they?! We had the opportunity to go an Alaskan cruise a few years ago and the sights were breathtaking! So glad you got to experience this together : )
